Creativity and innovation are becoming more and more critical to organizations to stay competitive; yet there are still many misconceptions and myths about creativity and creative processes. This workshop focuses on the role of facilitators in helping generate new, original ideas that are useful, adaptive, and provide solutions to workplace challenges. In this workshop, I will give a brief overview over the current state of organizational creativity research and how to enhance creative potential. Workshop participants will be asked to share their challenges regarding creativity in facilitation, training, and development, and we will work together to find solutions to these challenges by applying creative problem solving processes.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Brigitte Steinheider is an Associate Professor in the Organizational Dynamics graduate program at the University of Oklahoma - Tulsa. The program offers an innovative approach to education that links the latest management theory and practice with students’ real life work situations in an adult-learning format. The team-based format fosters creativity and innovation, and graduates of the program possess the leadership skills needed to manage people, projects, and processes. Dr. Steinheider was hired to implement the program in 2002, served as Graduate Liaison from 2003 to 2010, and as its director from 2005 to 2010.

Dr. Steinheider’s research interests and publications focus on interdisciplinary collaborations and knowledge sharing processes in organizations and research institutions. She collaborated with George Legrady on the internationally acclaimed digital media art installation ‘Pockets full of Memories’ which was commissioned by the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France and analyzed the creative production processes of the international artist/scientist team. Her research with regard to shared leadership in police organizations has been widely published and presented at international academic and professional conferences.  Dr. Steinheider has conducted organizational consulting and training for the Tulsa business community, vocational-technical institutions, and law enforcement agencies throughout Oklahoma and Southwest US.

Brigitte Steinheider received her MS in Psychology in 1990 from the Heinrich-Heine-University in Düsseldorf, her MBA in 1992 from the University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf, and her Ph.D. from the Technical University of Dresden in 1996.  Prior to coming to the U.S. in 2002, she was a research scientist and project leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering in Stuttgart, Germany where she worked with clients such as Volkswagen AG, DaimlerChrysler AG and Robert Bosch AG.  She is also a former Fellow of the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center of the University of California at Santa Barbara, a graduate of the Center for Creative Leadership, and an alumna of Leadership Tulsa.
