Effectively Measuring Learning & Development – Establishing the Link to Organizational Outcomes

Learning and Development professionals have often struggled to demonstrate the link between employee training and business metrics that C-level executives care about.   There is a great deal of research that exists demonstrating that effective training can improve individual employee performance.  However, the link between training and organizational metrics such as turnover, retention, customer satisfaction and financial performance has been more difficult to establish.  Dr. Chris Wright, CEO of Reliant a Tulsa-based Talent Management consulting and software firm will present and discuss specific methodologies L&D professionals can use to better demonstrate the link between learning/development and organizational metrics.   During his presentation, Dr. Wright will share a multi-year case study conducted with Love’s Country Stores and Travel Stops in which learning and development success was linked to key organizational metrics including turnover, retention, store performance and customer satisfaction.   As a result of this study, Love’s was named a 2013 and 2014 CLO Magazine Learning  Elite organization.   Love’s is the only gas-retail and only Oklahoma-based company to ever be named a Learning  Elite organization.

Chris is the founder, President and CEO of Reliant (www.reliantlive.com). Chris led the development of Reliant's end-to-end Talent Management solutions and assessments. Over 1000 companies globally have utilized Reliant's talent management solutions, assessments and survey technology.  Chris’s work with clients includes working with C-Level and HR executives to align talent and business strategies, helping define and measure employee engagement, developing effective hiring strategies and integrating talent management technology and processes.

Dr. Wright received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from the University of Tulsa. He is a frequent presenter, speaker and panelist at conferences such as the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Academy of Management, and Society for Human Resource Management. He has published research in the Journal of Business and Psychology and the Journal of Applied Psychology.  He has served on the Board and as President of the Tulsa Area Human Resources Association (TAHRA), a SHRM Chapter Affiliate and as Chair of the 2014 Oklahoma HR Conference (OKHR).  Chris has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tulsa and is currently an adjunct faculty member in the MBA program at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
